Celloly Nerdness. (And some other music too)

Okay. Lets Start July off right.
With a post about music. Mostly cello stuffs too.

First off. A musician Ive fallen in love with. Zoe Keating.
Her new album is out and I love it. I have no money to get my hands on it yet but...soon.
Meanwhile its streaming free here.

Now, chances are, I already posted about this. BUT.
Here's the amazing thing about this woman. Not only did she come out with a new album, but she had a baby last month. (if you follow her on twitter, it is the the most beautiful baby)
But. Her new album? Debuted on Billboard Classical albums at #7.
#7.
With "No marketing, no publicity: just digital dwnlds"
And you people question me saying she's good. She really is!!!

ALRIGHT.
Next. Another cellist.
That I just found yesterday.
Gordon Withers.
Yet ANOTHER cellist (Unwoman) re twittered that any cellist who messaged him on twitter got his new album for free.

How. could. I. resist?
and its so good. (streaming free here)
Its good.

(Speaking of Unwoman, I got a poster from her for free. I haven't put it up yet but - cool, right?)

Okay next.
Yet another new cellist Ive found.
Not necessarily her music but her blog and book.
Emily Wright. She wrote this book.
"
A Modern Cellist's Manual: Technique, Approach and Musings"
"
A very different sort of cello method, A Modern Cellist's Manual combines technical information and plenty of photographs with advice on approach. Topics addressed range from the basics of a painless bow grip to injury avoidance, working with a metronome, and tenor clef. Emily's tone and sense of humor lighten the mood of any practice session. A Modern Cellist's Manual is suitable for those taking private lessons as well as returning cellists looking to bolster rusty technique."

I waaaannnntttttt.

NNNEEXXXXXXTTTTT.
A story.
Keith Tutt is a cellist. He also has solo msuic where he sings and plays guitar but I know him as cellist for Switchfoot.
And an incredibly nice guy who always remembers me. (I think its the whole introducing myself as playing cello too...)
But I saw him at the bro-Am and he remembered me. Was so nice about it too. Told me how he's working on solo stuff and wants to play bro-am by himself next year.
YES PLEASE.

I also had the really random thought about him and me sitting around talking about cello stuff all day.
Oh I would love it. And then have him teach me the cello parts to switchfoot songs.
Hehehehe.

I feel like Im getting off track now. There was something else I wanted to post.
Was it about me and the music I downloaded to start playing and practicing? Or how I bought a coldplay album yesterday?
Or that Dustin Ruth album I finally listened to and feel in love with?

Maybe I should just do a weekly music post so I dont bombard you all with all this. heheheh.
That is all.

Celloly yours,
Amy

What I have been doing, What I am going to do

I know I havent been here lately much.

Ive been busy.

But Ive been having fun.

And in the past, these fun times and stories that I have tot tell would be written here.
But now...now they are stories to be told in person, to be written in letters and books, to be passed on word of mouth.

I guess Im taking the same route that Anne Jackson is taking.
Be quiet.

Contemplating a lot on my own life and seeing how its changing, where its going exactly.

Because honestly, it feels like its changing route every week now.

Part of me wishes I knew where I'll be in the few months of my life, where I'm headed...

..but I also like the flexibility and unexpectedness of it.
I am completely trusting God lately.
Doing what I know in my heart is right.
Doing my best to follow what I should be doing.

BUT.
I will tell you what Im doing this weekend.
Switchfoot is playing at the Del Mar Fair tomorrow and then they have their Bro-Am on Saturday.
I work the merch tomorrow.

Y'all should follow twitter.com/SwitchfootBroAm for the weekends events.
(cause there is also and Auction on Friday and afterparty later on Saturday)

Course. There is always on my own twitter account too. :D

Reasons 24, 400, and 395...

...why I like Switchfoot.

1. New podcast. So. Much. Fun.

2. They announced their new single: The Sound. Great fun fantastic song. (If you havent heard it-go listen to it here. Buy it here.)

3. Jon is writing genius. He just wrote this article for the Huffington Post. 9He's wirtten 2 or 3 others before).

"Maybe truth is not something that I can possess. Maybe truth is something which possesses me."

I look at the words now scrawled on the back of my hand. I think it over and look away. The clouds are turning colors, blue, grey, green, purple. The sun is setting off somewhere behind me. It's my favorite time of day. I look back at my hand and read the idea again.

"Maybe truth is something which possesses me."

To be possessed by truth rather than the other way round is a thought that goes against much of what I have been taught. In fact, most of my education has been presented as a growing accumulation of truth. Throughout public school, I was graded on my comprehension of the facts. The higher grades were awarded to those who really owned the material.

Great stuff. Read it.

Anyways. Thats all today kiddies. Love you much.

Dangit I did it again.

I keep telling myself that if its one of those days where Im not doing anything, to get my post in before 11 pm at least. Here it is 11:25 and I have to do anything. So Hm.

I dont wanna write my what Ive thought about NaBloPoMo thing yet, cause I have a few more days to go but Ive completely forgotten the ten million ideas that have been bouncing around in my head.

So. For now. Enjoy the newest Switchfoot podcast. In case you havent seen it yet.

I love the song in the background. And while I dont surf, I love watching it.

It might be my favorite one yet. I dunno. Heh.

Best....Movies. Well a couple good movies. And this Podcast.

Currently: annoyed with school. Im so close to having my classes registered and paid for...

I went to the movies last night.
Well cause my grandma's here visiting. And she's big on going to the movie theater and getting popcorn and all that.

SO. Her, my parents and brother and I went to see The Book of Eli.

Ohmygee.

It was good. It was really good.
Im going to try and give a small review of it with no/little spoilers.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, its Rated R, which I didnt know. Cause the "bad guys"..they do drop the "f bomb" and s word a few times and there is fighting with knives and guns and blood and chyea.
There were points I closed my eyes.
Uhm. But the main character? Loved him.
The story itself, the plot is great. Not that Im super into awards or anything, but I could see the movie at least being nominated for something down the road. well, if it gets enough attention.
Oh. And Mila Kunis is in it and at first I thought. Okay action movie. She's on of the few handful of girla actually in the movie. And yea that was true. BUT. She ends up playing this really nice role and..
I have to say..There's a point in the movie where her character just flips things around. And from that point on..the whole movie just goes in this direction you almost never thought would happen. It was really good. :)
Im not sure what else to say other than go see it. I really really liked it. It'll be hard to top this one for me this year. Heh.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay. Thats over.
(The movie last night is why I didnt post yesterday, got home super late.)
Oh. And then today my cousin and his girlfriend came down and after lunch we rented a couple movies and watched Up together.
Ah. I adore Up

"I have just met you, and I love you"
Hehe.
Oh yea. My mom hadnt seen it yet, so that was nice.

Last thing.
Switchfoot.
Tv.
New Podcast.
In...I dont even know how many months. Heh.
So highlarious. Back with full epicness. Just watch. You'll laugh. trust me.

Switchfoot Insomniatica

Currently: listening to bootlegs from my first ever switchfoot concert. :D

For the record, Im not having bad case of insomnia, Im just not tired enough to sleep but being up this late makes me look like Im an insomniatic. (Which Im sure amuses "the aussies" if theyre reading this. I know its your favorite word Emily.)
((I SHOULD be tired. I started cleaning my room today and usually that drains me but I started cleaning it out of frustration and annoyance so Im more just emotionally kind of drained. I mean, cleaning is better than taking it out on someone and getting in trouble with the parents. Its productive too!))
(((Im not even sure what the title of this blog is supposed to mean. blame it on the insomnia? Hehe...)))

Heeeeeerrrrrrreeeeeeeesssss the thing. I got an mp3 for Christmas.
My parents researched and its a Sony 8gig, which apparently, Sony hasnt made great ones before but this one is good.

I mean, its got good sound quality. Heh. Actually its great. Ive just been spoiled by having an iPod once in my life. (And oh do I miss it.)

ANYWAYS. So Ive slept the last couple days putting on music, and tonight I found my old Switchfoot bootlegs. So I put them on and listened. I have all 9 from my first Switchfoot concert.

And not to be a Switchfoot freak, but MEMORIES!

(Who remembers the bootlegs? Amazing! And the letting us pick a song that theyd play at the show we we're going to?? LOVE IT!)

Oh my. The whole Jon saying hi to his hometown, and Keith! Keith played at my first concert!
I keep playing the last two songs over and over cause I can pick out his cello in this songs- I love it.

And then I remembered that this was the O!G. tour. Over two and a half years ago.

And how the O!G. album turned 3 on Saturday. Three years since the last album before HH.

Wow.

It blows my mind all the life that has happened in between and since.

Between my first concert and my last one, which was, epic. I cant put the whole of it into words.

Oh my. I think they play Lonely Nation differently now and daisy never ceases to amaze. Same with learning to breathe.

ohand.

One thing.

Whenever I play "Sing It Out" it always reminds of the stuff played between the songs. And I listen to these 9 songs and I hear it. I hear the beginning glimpses of what the guys were going through. What HH became, what future albums might become y'know?

This band..you go back and you see it. You see how theyve grown from these 3 college kids trying to make an album to a five-piece band of great down-to-earth people who do so so sooooo many great things.

It leaves me in awe.

It left me in awe at my first concert, and 5 years and 3 days after getting my album by them, it still leaves me in awe.

I think what I love most though, is that this is NOT the last time I feel like this. I'll dig out an album of theirs, a song, a poster, pictures, SOMETHING, and be reminded once again.

I love this band. <3

Rambling-bamblings of a tired person.

Currently: happy my mom is home from her vacation.

Hi blog.
Im sorry I havent posted.
I blame my busy life.
Well, not my busy life really, just my lack of motivation after being busy.

You see, cause, yes, homework and school and church and my family and friends and (esp lately) Switchfoot but its more being way too tired and not wanting to sit and do anything that I blame my no posts on and I have been writing in my journal just not here cause i really have been crazy inspired lately and i life run on sentences so this is becoming one and im really really really tired right now.

Heh.

Also. This new Switchfoot video slightly freaks me out.
I mean-I think its just the close up shot of Jon at the beginning. He looks like a creeper.

But other than that I like it. I mean. Romey on accordion?=WIN
And I love seeing all the guys sing with Jon.
I really do love that song.

BTW YOU SHOULD GO THE NEW ALBUM IF YOU HAVENT ALREADY.

Alright. homework time.

I need constant soundtracking

Currently: refreshing twitter and facebook to continually see Mess Of Me stuff. =)

Everyone that knows me, knows I love music. I almsot constantly have it playing.

I love soundtracks. I love making playlists.

But sometimes-it doesnt matter to me unless I can share it with others.

SO.

Musical post here.

First artist up? A continuation from last post-Switchfoot has the new Mess of Me video and I have posted up on the "current" line. Watch the video, rate it, fav it, comment. Please =D
We're really trying to get this video go big within the next 24 hours, and we jsut need some help from where we already have it at.

Second-Zoe Keating.
Now I actually found her on twitter. she's one of those "people you should follow". I think I only followed cause she's a cellist. ANYWAYS.
There are three of her tracks FREE on last.fm
Sun Will Set
Legions (War)
Exurgency

Honestly, exurgency is what made me fall in love and go buy her two albums on amazon. I love her stuff.

Next. Another cellist. Unwoman.
I found her through Zoe Keating on twitter. It was like the other nite she poste her site link so I went. She only has two albums and she sings while playing but holy moly is she good.
I went like two days just listening to her stuff.
http://unwoman.bandcamp.com/
im still debating over what I want to buy from her. there's options
NOTE-her covers of Hurt and House of the Rising Sun are incredible. Her original stuff is awesome too. Im very very into it.

And lastly.
Glee.

Normally, Im not into what the hype is, but I love love love this show. Maybe cause its all musical and reminds me of the kids I hung out with in high school. I dunno.
But I usually watch it on Hulu-depending on the week and if Ive been working or not.

Okay-the next bit may or may not have spoilers. Its mostly just about the songs though.
Last week-Now, Im not a huge Neil Diamond fan.
My mom and brother are.
but this last week? Puck sang "Sweet Caroline"
oooohhh I have a new obsession. Heh.
And the week beofre (or the week before that) Quinn sang "You Just Keep Me Hangin On"
Its really.
Im so amused amazon already has volume 1 of season 1 soundtrack up. They do THAT many songs.

LOVE IT.

Alright. I gotta me some homework done.
You?
You check out the music I posted.

Hello November, Hello Hurricane. Cello Solo.

Currently: really sleepy. and listening to http://unwoman.bandcamp.com/album/the-keys

Okay. So a heads up. this post is mostly about Switchfoot. So run away now if you want.

Lets start with album news, yes?
8 more days. well, 7 days and *looks at clock* 18 minutes. I pre-ordered mine and am hoping it comes early. Even if only by a day.
But, the album is streaming on myspace. I refuse. I paid for the collectors edition set and I am making the day I get special by listening to then, yes I am!!

Although I have been listening to the previews on their site and uhm... *loves*. Seriously.
Ive never been this excited for anything. I want my copy of the album to be here now already.

Concerts. Its annoying how much they play locally and I have to miss. This next Sunday they'll be in El Cajon and I didn't buy tickets before they sold out and I have no way there. boo. And then the 11th they'll be in West Hollywood and the day after they're playing the Jimmy Kimmel show-WHICH I got free tickets to but had to give up cause I have no way there.

Boo. Again.

But I have a ticket to the Anaheim show the day after Thanksgiving. So. I should count my blessings. Heh. (and yes-I want to go the the Ventura show the day after that but-its becoming harder and harder to figure out how i'll do it...)

Hm.What else. I dont know. My life is Switchfoot-packed. Esp this month.

Other than switchfoot??? Well, school. Which I finally caught up on reading today. I think Ill be caught up with everything by the end of this week.
Work-been pretty. Wish I had more hours, but I can only babysit and get paid so much (If you're reading this and have a job for me-TELL ME!!)
Church-love it. It fills my life. Though Im getting an idea of why many people avoid volunteering for multiple things in the church. Heh.

I dont know what else.

Oh. Because it made me giggle.

Free Music, you say?

Anyone who knows me will tell you I'm the biggest Switchfoot fan on the face on the planet.
And while my love for them has cooled (okay-maybe not lately-there's been A LOT of news), I'm an even bigger fan of music.
And I've found a lot of free stuff lately. So I shall share.

The first was shown to me by a boardie friend Sarah (http://blogofthesarah.blogspot.com/2009/04/free-music.html)
free album from the band We shot The Moon. I haven't really listened to them before but some boardie friends and really--who am I pass up on free music?
http://weshotthemoon.com/free/
And yes, it's good. I think its only good till like today -so go now.

Next one. By a band called Berch. i don't know anything about them other than they are a fan of Switchfoot and they started to follow me on twitter so...I followed back. Lol
http://www.purevolume.com/Berch

Now Hearitfirst.com has a free download every week and this week they had two.
Normally, I dont get the free download because i dont really caqre or my ner sucks or already have it, but thie week they had the song "Back and Forth" which has been playing a lot of Air1 and I kind of love it.
http://e2ma.net/go/1950489453/1785346/66229475/goto:http://www.hearitfirst.com/1clickdownloads/download.aspx?iid=1029608

Next is a mix of things. Usually amazon bugs me but... when they give you 6 songs for free, okay, I will give and get it.
1. In Christ-Big Daddy weave (More country, more my moms style)
2.No One Else Knows-Building 429 (Okay-only heard like a total of three or four of their songs but i like em)
3.Enough-Barlowgirl (woo)
4.You Lift Me Up-Rachel Lampa
5.Breathe Your Name-Sixpence None The Richer (love this band, love love this song)
6.Adore-Jaci Velasquez.
You do have to download Amazon downloader thing first but whatever.

Gavin Mikhail.
Oh my when my boardie friend (Mellie) (http://melinthemilkyway.blogspot.com/2009/04/free-music-gavin-mikhail.html) posted this on her blog, I called her cupid. 4 albums for free? I will give this guy a try. You should too. He's pretty cool and nice, and will respond to you on twitter. lol
http://www.myspace.com/gavin_songs

Lastly-Switchfoot. Ah
Now if you havent heard-theyve released new about their new upcoming album.
1. thats its actually 4 albums theyve been working on, to relaeased at differetn times, starting this August
2. That the first will be "Hello Hurricane" and another "vice Verses"
Now-If you follow them on Twitter and/or go to landofbrokenhearts.org frequently, you've seen this.
the truh is-there's a whole media section of songs the guys have played that you can download-of course what I have to talk about is the latest songs
Vice Verses-crazy good song. two versions up-get both. 1st one is slow and nice but the second one with Keith-well what can I say? I'm biased. Keith is the cellist and I'm in love.

Yet-I love this song. beyond words. Even though it makes me cry every time I listen. Aha.

I think you can manuvear yourself around there so I wont put up anything else.

I think that it's. I find free stuff randomly, but this week has been a really good week. heh.
Okay, I'm off to blog more.

'If you love her let her go...'

(Listen to these songs while reading)

I am sad.
I am sad for myself and for those I know.
Mostly, I am sad for those who can't let go.
It's one of the hardest things in the world in my opinion. To have horrible feelings mixed with good, not wanting them, but not wanting to hand them over to anyone. ever.
The best example would be after breaking up a relationship with anyone. Mostly romantic relationships, but I've seen it between family and friends too. You know someone for a while. Some good time period where you become close and bonds are formed. But also, you learn the dark sides. The bad-the things you don't like about them. Or maybe you don't.
The next part happens in more romantic relationships than anything else-it breaks. Life happens. Either you grow up, a event in one of your life's show something that the relationship cannot work with or around. Someone maybe died. Maybe someone moved.
Whatever happened-the relationship is trained and eventually broken.
What now? You have all these wonderful brilliant memories of a this person tainted by hurt.
You hate how you're feeling and wish it were all different-somehow back to how it had been.
But it can't change back. And you know you have to let go of it. But that would also mean letting go of the love you each shared and the friendship you both had possessed.
It gets to be almost this limbo thing. You are not wanting to let go but knowing its the right thing to do.
At the end of 2007, I came back to God after a decline of falling away for a few years. The big weekend that it did, all that my life had been the past year or so crumbled. I had thrown out everything taught to me as a child and had been in an unhealthy relationship and less than ideal school situation.
I will never forget that feeling. Lying on a convention room floor crying my eyes-my whole shuddering, clinging to my best friend while all our youth leaders started to pray and lay hands on us. I could hear God so clearly, at the same time feeling him break down all the lies my life was now based on. I went home and broke up with boyfriend and then proceeded to be at church three times a week every week-crying anytime we got into prayer or worship.
The walls were broken and now the rubble was being cleared. I was being rebuilt. But I had to let go.
And I still am. I always feel as if I'm still in those beginning baby steps of letting. Like the repeated mixed up process of breaking up with someone. All the emotions you feel afterwords.
There are days I'm overwhelmed by everything I have to deal with. All the past things in my life that I would rather not think about or remember. And there are times I can forget them or feel better and lighter.
But tonight I was reminded deeply of what it felt like to not let go. To hold on so strong not caring how deeply it's wounding you. the weapon you get to hurt someone else but it burns you more instead.
Why? Why can't we let go of things that scar us so deeply? The things we sit and complain, the things that make us cry because a movie or conversation reminds us of it?
Is it simply our want? To not forget the good that was? Ive never forgotten that part.
Is it not listening to God? My relationship with him has grown over and over in the past year simply because he asks me to let go of some things and while I don't always do it right or I fail in trying, I still set out to let go of something wounding me. God never ever wants things to hurt us, esp ourselves I think.
But our vision in those relationships become blinded. We think we're not good enough for him and cant run to him, finding we cant do this, we cant let go by ourselves and nobody else can truly help us because nobody else has lived our exact lives to really know what it feels like to us.

I think we all know somebody who needs to let go of something. Maybe its ourselves, maybe its a friend or family member, but the fact is its in the world and its abundant and thats so sad.
I pray for you all, you know who you are.
